
Illini Women's Tennis Prepares for ITA Midwest Regionals

URBANA, Ill. – The Fighting Illini women's tennis team will travel to East Lansing, Mich., to compete in the six-day ITA Midwest Regional Championships, hosted by Michigan State, on Thursday, Oct. 17 through Tuesday, Oct. 22 at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility. The winners of both the main draw singles and the main draw doubles competition will receive automatic bids to the Oracle ITA Fall National Championships.
The tournament will be split into both the qualifying and main draw singles competition, while doubles play will be in the main draw only. The qualifying singles first and second round will be played on Thursday, Oct. 17, with the round of 16 taking place on Friday, Oct. 18. Eight players will qualify for the main draw singles competition.
Freshman Emily Casati and sophomore Shivani Ingle will represent the Orange and Blue in the qualifying singles competition.
The main draw doubles competition will begin on Friday, Oct. 18 with the first and second rounds. In the event, the round of 16 will be played Saturday, Oct. 19, continuing with the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds on Sunday, Oct. 20. The main draw doubles play will conclude Monday, Oct. 21 with the championship match.
Pairing up in doubles play for the Illini will be juniors Asuka Kawai and Mia Rabinowitz, freshman Josie Frazier and junior Emilee Duong, Casati and junior Sasha Belaya and freshman Ashley Yeah and Ingle.
Competition in the main draw singles will be Saturday, Oct. 19, starting with the first and second rounds. Sunday, Oct. 20 will mark play for the round of 16, while the quarterfinals and semifinals of the main draw singles will be held on Monday, Oct. 21. The main draw singles championship will be played on Tuesday, Oct. 22.
The Fighting Illini that will take part in the main draw singles competition will be Kawai, Rabinowitz, Belaya, Duong, Frazier and Yeah.
Other teams that will be competing in the event alongside Illinois and MSU, include Akron, Bowling Green, Chicago State, Cleveland State, DePaul, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Michigan, Illinois State, UIC, Marquette, Michigan, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Toledo, Western Michigan, Wisconsin, Oakland, Youngstown State and Valparaiso.
