TORONTO  – Former Illinois All-American and Wimbledon finalist, Kevin Anderson, is set to start play at the Rogers Cup on Wednesday afternoon. With his fifth ATP World Tour Masters 1000 appearance of the year, Anderson earned an automatic bid based on current world rankings.
Receiving a top eight seed in the singles draw, No. 4 seed Anderson will receive a bye in the first round of the tournament. Seeking his first win at a ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament, the South African native will square off against Russian Evgeny Donskoy in the second round. In a close battle, No. 87 ranked Donskoy defeated No. 37 ranked Andrey Rublev 7-6(7), 6-4. This year Donskoy has participated in a trio of Grand Slam tournaments, Australian Open, French Open (also known as Roland Garros), and Wimbledon.
As of late, Anderson achieved a career-high world ranking at No. 5 after a successful season highlighted by a historical run at Wimbledon, where he finished as a finalist. The former All-American currently leads the head-to-head matchup over Donskoy, 4-0. Anderson's most recent victory over the Moscow native was in the 64th round of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, Calif.
