CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Three transfers and three freshmen were added to the Illinois football roster as training camp opened on Friday – Senior AJ Bush, sophomores Milo Eifler and Dominic Stampley, and freshmen Dillon Garimella, Caleb Griffin and Cam Stacy.
QB AJ Bush transferred to Illinois from Virginia Tech, where he graduated last season after playing in five games. Bush is a graduate transfer and immediately eligible for one season. He was on the roster at Nebraska in 2014 and 2015 and spent 2016 at Iowa Western before joining the Hokies in 2017. Bush is eligible to play immediately as a graduate transfer.
LB Milo Eifler transferred to Illinois from Washington. Eifler was on the Huskies' roster for two seasons, appearing in all 13 games last year. He is a former top-15 ranked outside linebacker recruit in the nation. Eifler will have to sit out the 2018 season due to NCAA transfer rules. He'll have two years of eligibility remaining starting in 2019.
WR Dominic Stampley joins the Illini after catching 17 passes for 278 yards at Coffeyville Community College (Kan.) last season. The Champaign, Illinois, native had 35 receptions for 369 yards and five touchdowns as a senior at Centennial High School. Stampley is eligible to play immediately as a junior college transfer.
K Caleb Griffin is an incoming freshman from Danville, Illinois. Griffin was a three-time All-Big 12 Conference kicker and two-time News-Gazette All-Area first team honoree.
A pair of walkons also were added to the training camp roster on Friday – DB Dillon Garimella (Peoria, Ill./Peoria Notre Dame) and WR Cam Stacy (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South).
