Massey, Spillane Named All-Region

ABCA/Rawlings All-Region

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. --
Michael Massey and Bren Spillane were named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region first team, the American Baseball Coaches Association announced Wednesday.

Massey hit .326 with 17 doubles, three triples, six homers and 46 RBIs, while also committing only one error at second base. Massey started all 53 games as one of the most consistent players in the Big Ten, leading the conference in hits during conference games (37).

Massey produced an impressive highlight reel of defensive plays. He is a strong candidate for the ABCA's national gold glove award.

Spillane's long list of accomplishments includes Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Year, three first team All-America selections, Big Ten Player of the Year, the first player in Big Ten history to win three straight conference player of the week awards, the first player in Illinois history to win two national player of the week awards, the nation's leading slugging percentage (.903), OPS (1.401) and home runs per game (0.46) and the second-best slugging percentage in Big Ten history.

The Cincinnati Reds singed Spillane to a professional contract Tuesday. He was drafted No. 82 overall, the highest selected position player in Illinois program history.
