CHAMPAIGN - No. 11 ranked Fighting Illini men's golf will travel to Columbus, Ohio for the NCAA Columbus Regional May 16-18. Hosted by Ohio State University, the three-day 54-hole tournament will be held on the Scarlet Course at the Ohio State University Golf Club. The appearance will mark Illinois' 11th consecutive NCAA Regional appearance.
The Illini will play one round of 18 holes each day at The Ohio State University's 7,455-yard, Par 72 Scarlet Course, with tee times beginning at 6:30 a.m. CT. Live scoring for the event will be available on Golfstat, and a recap will be posted on FightingIllini.com following each day of play.
Illinois earned the No. 2 seed in the regional field and will be joined by 12 other teams in Columbus, including Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, UNLV, Wake Forest, Northwestern, Penn State, Tennessee, Louisville, Jacksonville, Michigan State, Yale and Cleveland.
The low five teams and low individual not on a qualifying team from each of the six NCAA regional sites will advance to compete at the NCAA Championship at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Oklahoma, May 25-30.
Illinois is coming off of its fourth consecutive Big Ten Championship victory and the 16th in program history. Senior Nick Hardy earned Big Ten Individual Medalist honors for the second time in his career and became the eighth consecutive Big Ten Championship medalist from Illinois.
In school history, the Orange and Blue have won four NCAA Regional titles and the Illini have seen three individuals combine for four NCAA Regional individual titles in the past nine seasons. The Illini won four consecutive NCAA Regionals from 2013-2016 and will look for their fifth NCAA Regional victory this season. UI is one of just two schools to have won four straight Regional Championships, and was the first school to do so since the early 1990s (Arizona, 1990-1993). Illinois is one of 14 schools to have won four or more regional titles overall. Oklahoma State leads the way, however, as the Cowboys have garnered 12 NCAA Regional titles in school history.
