CHAMPAIGN, IL – It promises to be another star-studded night when the University of Illinois introduces its Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2018 at the Hall of Fame Gala, presented by Deloitte, in Chicago on June 15.
The Gala, hosted by ESPN personality Rece Davis, will be held at the spectacular Stanley Hall of the Field Museum of Natural History (1400 South Lake Shore Drive, Chicago) with a cocktail reception at 6:30 p.m. followed by the dinner and program at 7:30 p.m.
The Black-Tie (optional) event will celebrate the history of Fighting Illini Athletics and honor the Hall of Fame class of 2018. Tickets for the event are $300 per person and can be purchased online HERE.
Davis, who joined ESPN in 1995, was named the host of ESPN College GameDay Built by The Home Depot, the network's flagship college football program in February 2015. In addition, he is the prime host of the network's on-site coverage for both the College Football Playoff and the NCAA Men's Final Four. In his first two seasons with college football's longest-running and most-celebrated pregame show, College GameDay earned a Sports Emmy for best weekly studio show. Davis remains the host of ESPN's College GameDay basketball road show and calls a Thursday night basketball game following the completion of the football season. A native of Muscle Shoals, Ala., but born in Chicago, Davis graduated cum laude from the University of Alabama and worked for television stations in Flint, Mich., and Columbus, Ga.
"We are committed to building the tradition, started last summer, of making the Hall of Fame Gala a marquee event on the annual calendar for Illinois fans across the country," said UI Director of Athletics Josh Whitman. "All in attendance at the Field Museum last year raved about the evening, which was highlighted by seeing and hearing from some of the great figures in the history of Fighting Illini Athletics. This year, in addition to another elite class, we are pleased to welcome nationally acclaimed sports journalist and ESPN personality Rece Davis as our emcee. We look forward to another fabulous night in Chicago, with Rece leading our guests, including Fighting Illini legends past and present, through an enjoyable walk down memory lane of Orange and Blue excellence. We hope all Illini will consider joining us!"
Members of the 21-person 2018 Hall of Fame class, as well as other notable former Illini and UI alumni, will be in attendance and participate in the program.
The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held Sept. 22 at State Farm Center in Champaign.
