CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The Illinois baseball team was not selected for the 2018 NCAA Baseball Championship, the NCAA announced Monday during its selection show aired live on ESPNU. The Illini finished the season with a record of 33-20.

Illinois was listed as one of the last four teams out. Dallas Baptist, Northeastern, Oklahoma State and Troy were the last four in.

Illinois finished fourth in the Big Ten and advanced to the Big Ten Tournament semifinals with two wins over Indiana. The Illini's tournament resume included five RPI top-30 wins, 13 RPI top-100 wins, a 3-2 season series win over Indiana and a three-game series sweep of the Big Ten/Pac-12 Challenge (wins over Washington, UCLA and Arizona).

Big Ten Player of the Year Bren Spillane finishes the season with a .389 batting average, 23 home runs, 60 RBIs and a national-leading .903 slugging percentage. He is the first NCAA player to finish a season with a slugging percentage over .900 since 2009, when Bryce Brentz of Middle Tennessee State ended at .930.

Spillane's Illinois single-season ranks include second in slugging (.903), second in home runs (23), second in Big Ten home runs (10), tied for third in on-base percentage (.498), fourth in total bases (158) and tied for third Big Ten total bases (67).
