PREVIEW

OMAHA, Neb. -- After a late-night 7-1 win Wednesday over No. 5-seed Indiana, the No. 4-seed Illinois baseball team will take on Big Ten champion Minnesota at 9 p.m. CT at TD Ameritrade Park. The game will be televised nationally on Big Ten Network.

Illinois (32-18) bumped up four spots in the RPI last night to No. 46 with its important victory. It set up the Illini with a chance for another resume-boosting win against Minnesota, which is ranked No. 11 in the country.

"Illinois still needs to continue taking care of business in Omaha to get in the field, but a win over Indiana was a step in the right direction," wrote D1Baseball.com's Kendall Rogers.

Illinois may have played its best defensive game of the season and held Indiana to tying season lows in runs (1) and hits (2). Michael Massey boosted the lead with a seventh-inning three-run homer, letting closer Joey Gerber stay seated in the bullpen and saved for another night.

"We're trying to build our resume for the NCAA tournament," said head coach Dan Hartleb. "You look at what we did against a very, very good team, it was convincing fashion."

A win over Minnesota would get Illinois the day off Friday before a 9 a.m. CT game Saturday against a team with one loss. A loss against Minnesota would put Illinois in the 7:30 p.m. CT game Friday against Indiana, which beat Michigan State 6-5 in 10 innings Thursday.

All Big Ten Tournament games will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network. Dave Loane and Jeff Huth will have the radio call on the Fighting Illini Sports Network and WDWS 1400-AM.
