ST. LOUIS – Fighting Illini sophomore Rae Balthazor earned 13th place in the all-around competition at the NCAA Championships on Friday night in St. Louis. Balthazor tallied a 39.325 all-around total and her eighth-place finish on floor earned the sophomore NCAA All-America honors.
"Rae was absolutely phenomenal tonight," head coach Nadalie Walsh said. "She hit every single event and handled the platform of the NCAA Championships with confidence and poise, like the super star she is. I am so proud of how she represented Illinois. The entire staff and team are inspired."
Balthazor began the all-around competition with a 9.900 on floor before hitting a 9.725 on vault. After a bye during the fourth rotation, Rae tallied a 9.825 on bars and finished the competition with a strong, 9.825 on beam.
With her 9.900 on floor, Balthazor tied for eighth place and earned second-team NCAA All-America honors. Balthazor is just the seventh Illini to win NCAA All-America honors and the first Giana O'Connor in 2015. Illinois has earned 14 NCAA All-America honors in program history.
