FAIRFAX, Calif. – The 22nd ranked Fighting Illini women's golf team placed fifth at the annual Meadow Club Women's Intercollegiate, held in Fairfax, California. The team posted a 36-hole tournament total of 592 (+16) at the Meadow Club Golf Course (Par 72, 6,157 yards), to earn its sixth top-five finish of the season.
"I feel like we definitely left some shots out there, but this is always a good preparation for spring break," sophomore Tristyn Nowlin said. "There are a lot of good things to take away and I feel we had great energy in the final round. Now we have a little gap, so we will be able to gather some information from our performance this week and design our practices to strengthen our game."
After a first round total of 72 (E), junior Bing Singhsumalee carded a 73 (+1) to finish with a tournament total of 145 (+1) and tie for 10th place overall. Nowlin came away with a strong round on day two of play, as the Richmond, Kentucky, native posted a 71 (-1) to bring her two-day total to 147 (+3) and tie for 18th.
"This course offers some challenges all around," Nowlin added. "It definitely requires your full attention for every shot. The greens are pretty undulating and they have a lot of break to them."
