INDIANAPOLIS – Illinois men's track and field has qualified two athletes for NCAA Indoor Championships, held March 9-10 in College Station, Texas. 60m hurdler David Kendziera and 3,000-meter runner Jon Davis each finished the indoor season ranked in the top-16 in their respective events, earning them a spot at the national indoor meet.
Kendziera will be making his second appearance at the meet after placing fourth at last year's Championships with a personal record time of 7.69. A six-time All-American between the indoor and outdoor seasons, the Illini redshirt senior is tied for 14th in the nation with a time of 7.76. Kendziera matched his season best at Big Ten Indoor Championships last weekend, earning a silver medal.
Qualifying for his first indoor NCAA meet, redshirt freshman Jon Davis will be making his second overall appearance at NCAA Track Championships. Davis posted his qualifying time of 7:49.92 at the Iowa State Classic back on February 9, breaking the Illinois school record, and placed runner-up at Big Ten Championships last weekend. Davis earned All-America honors in the 5,000 meters at last year's NCAA Outdoor Championships after redshirting the indoor season.
The 60m hurdles semifinal will be held on Friday, March 9 at 6:55 p.m. central time with the final held the following evening, March 10, at 5:10 p.m. The 3,000-meter final is scheduled for Saturday, March 10, at 6:10 p.m.
2018 NCAA Indoor Championships will be streamed live on ESPN3 and on the WatchESPN app beginning at 5:30 p.m. central time on March 9 and starting at 4 p.m. on March 10. A tape-delayed broadcast of the meet will be aired on Sunday, March 11, at 6 p.m. on ESPN2.
