PEORIA, Ariz. - The 15th ranked Illinois women's golf team wrapped up its first tournament of the spring season on Monday, placing ninth at the Westbrook Spring Invitational with a three-day total of 859 (-5). The Orange and Blue carded rounds of 286-283-290 at the Westbrook Golf Club Vistas Course (Par 72, 6,269 yards) in Peoria, Arizona.
"It was not the strong finish we were looking for," head coach Renee Slone said. "Our par 3 play was strong throughout the tournament but we did not convert the opportunities we gave ourselves. We will use this week to dial in a few things and get ready for a great tournament in California."
Senior Dana Gattone and junior Bing Singhsumalee led the way for the Illini, tying for 24th place overall with rounds of 72-70-72 (-2) and 71-71-72 (-2), respectively. Not far behind was sophomore Tristyn Nowlin, finishing with first and second round scores of 71 and a final round total of 73, good for a 215 (-1) and tying for 31st place overall.
Senior Grace Park finished in a tie for 38th place after carding rounds of 72-72-72 for a 217 (+1), while senior Chayanid Prapassarangkul shot a tournament total of 219 (+3) to place tied for 48th overall at the event.
Competing as an individual, freshman Ali Morallos matched Gattone and Singhsumalee with rounds 70-73-71 to finish tied for 31st.
Oklahoma won the tournament with a score of 839 (-25). Ohio State finished in second with a 24-under par score, followed by Nebraska in third (-21) and Wisconsin in fourth (-20). Oregon State finished in fifth with a 14-under par total, followed by Notre Dame (-12), Indiana (-11) and Kansas State (-8). Rounding out the field were Washington State (-4), UC Davis (-3), Oregon (+3), Delaware (+12), Kansas (+14) and Iowa (+21).

After making its first appearance at the event a year ago, Illinois will once again travel to Fairfax, California, to compete in the Meadow Club Women's Intercollegiate. The Illini finished third at the tournament last year, posting a team total of 881 (+17). Competition will begin with two rounds of play on Monday, March 5, followed by the final round and award ceremony on Tuesday.
