PEORIA, Ariz. - After the first two rounds of play at the Westbrook Spring Invitational, the 15th ranked Fighting Illini women's golf team sits in eighth place with a two-round total of 569 (-7). The Orange and Blue turned in scores of 286 (-2) and 283 (-5) from the Westbrook Golf Club Vistas Course (Par 72, 6,269 yards) in Peoria, Arizona.
"The team was very process oriented and focused on their individual commitments well," head coach Renee Slone said. "We can play more aggressively tomorrow to take advantage of the prime scoring conditions. It is always positive to post back-to-back under par rounds, but there were some opportunities we did not take advantage of. We are looking forward to a strong day tomorrow."
Senior Dana Gattone, junior Bing Singhsumalee and sophomore Tristyn Nowlin led the way for the Illini, as the three Illini golfers sit in a tie for 18th place with two-round totals of 142 (-2). Gattone posted rounds of 72 (E) and 70 (-2), while Singhsumalee and Nowlin each carded identical rounds of 71.
Senior Chayanid Prapassarangkul is tied for 30th after posting a first round total of 72 (E), followed by a 71 (-1) in the second round to finish at 143 (-1) for the day. Senior Grace Park sits at par heading into final round play, carding identical 72 (E) rounds. Competing as an individual, freshman Ali Morallos is also in a tie for 30th after rounds of 70 (-2) and 73 (+1).
Nebraska leads the way at 20-under par, followed by Oklahoma (-18) and Ohio State (-17). Indiana rounds out the top five with a day one total of 556 (-10).
The final round of the Westbrook Spring Invitational is set to tee off at 9:30 a.m. CT Monday morning with a shotgun start.
