Wells jumped 25'6" (7.77m) at USA Indoor Championships

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Illinois men's track and field senior long jumper Jonathan Wells marked the sixth-best long jump in Fighting Illini history at the United States Indoor Track and Field Championships inside the Albuquerque Convention Center on Saturday afternoon. Full results can be accessed here

The only college entry in the 13-jumper field, Wells measured 25'6" (7.77m) on his first attempt, initially placing him fifth in the field. Wells marked 24'10" (7.57m) on his second attempt before fouling on his final four.

Redshirting the indoor season, Saturday marked the first time that Wells competed in an Illinois uniform this season. After setting personal records in the horizontal jump while competing unattached at Illinois home meets in January, Wells added six inches to his best jump on his first attempt Saturday.

Former Illini Joe McAsey also competed at U.S. Indoor Championships on Saturday, running the 800m. McAsey timed 1:51.56 in the first heat of the preliminary round, placing 18th overall.
