LAS VEGAS - Five Illini gymnasts competed in the first night of the 2018 Winter Cup Challenge on Saturday night at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino. Senior Brandon Ngai posted the third best pommel horse score of 14.650, while junior Alex Diab came away with a 14.150 on still rings, good for fourth place overall.
"Overall it was a little bit of a rough day for us," head coach Justin Spring said. "We had a few highlights with Johnny on parallel bars, Alex on rings and Brandon on pommel horse, which hopefully should qualify them for Saturday."
On parallel bars, junior Johnny Jacobson placed sixth with a 13.700 total. Freshman Joel Diaz was the lone Illini gymnast to compete in all six events, as the Cypress, Texas, native posted an all-around total of 73.050.
