CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illini early enrollee Grace Hester hails from Hattiesburg, Miss., joining the Orange and Blue from MS Rebounders where she was coached by Sean Gardner and Candi Workman. An eight-time Region 8 Regional Qualifier, Hester placed third on bars at the 2018 Region 8 Level 10 Regionals. On the state level, Hester is a 10-time level 10 state champion, including four all-around titles, three bars titles, and two beam titles. Hester also has experience on podium, participating in the 2018 Elevate the Stage meet in Hoover, Ala., where she was the bars, beam, and all-around champion, along with runner-up on vault. With her long and elegant lines, the Illini newcomer is looking to make an immediate impact on bars for the 2019 team…  

Why you chose Illinois?

I believe the UI is a unique place. From my first visit, the bond I formed with all of the girls and coaches is indescribable and I knew in my heart that I wanted to be an Illini. I am beyond excited to be a part of such a supportive, encouraging, and loving family. It is truly a special place.

What is your intended major and/or minor?

Major: Biology, Minor: Kinesiology

What are you looking forward to most about college gymnastics?

I am looking forward to being a part of a team atmosphere that exhibits positive and encouraging attitudes.

I can fold the top of my ear under and make it stay
