CHAMPAIGN – No. 17 Fighting Illini men's golf will travel to Notre Dame, Indiana this weekend to take on the 2018 Fighting Irish Classic. Hosted by the University of Notre Dame, the two-day, 54-hole tournament will be held at Warren Golf Course (Par 71, 7,020-yards) October 7-8.
The tournament will begin with a 7:45 a.m. shotgun start on Sunday, October 7. Teams will play two rounds, 36-holes, on Sunday and continue with the final round on Monday, October 8. Monday's round will begin with tee times at 7:30 a.m. CT off of the first and 10th tees.
Live scoring for the Fighting Irish Classic will be available through Birdiefire, and fans can follow @IlliniMGolf on Twitter for even more live updates. A recap will be posted on FightingIllini.com following each day of play.
The Orange and Blue will join a field of 15 teams at the Fighting Irish Classic, including Georgia Southern, Iowa, Iowa State, Miami (OH), Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, North Carolina, NIU, Southern Alabama, Southern Illinois, Toledo, Wisconsin, and host Notre Dame.
Illinois is coming off of its first victory of the season at The Macdonald Cup, where all seven Illini in the field placed among the top 25 individuals. Junior Bryan Baumgarten led the UI lineup with an 8-under par, second-place finish. Freshman Adrien Dumont de Chassart also tied for second place overall, representing Illinois as an individual in the field. Juniors Giovanni Tadiotto and Michael Feagles also earned spots among the top 10, tying for sixth and ninth, respectively. Tadiotto carded a 3-under par 207, while Feagles shot a 2-under par 208 at the tournament.
