AJGA Release | Girls Team | Golfweek Release
BRASELTON, Ga. – As announced by the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) on Saturday afternoon, Illinois women's golf's Kornkamol Sukaree has been named a Rolex Junior Second Team All-American for the 2018 season.
"We are elated Kornkamol (Sukaree) has been recognized for her outstanding play during the 2018 season," said head coach Renee Slone. "This is one of the highest honors a junior golfer can receive. She made the very most of the somewhat limited playing opportunities she had."
Introduced by the American Junior Golf Association in 1978, the Rolex Junior All-America Teams annually recognize players who have proven to be the world's best. The teams, and Rolex Junior Player of the Year honors, were determined exclusively through the Rolex AJGA Rankings as of October 15.
A total of 48 women's golfers ages 14-19 were recognized with the prestigious honor. There are 12 players honored for First and Second teams, while 24 players are recognized for Honorable Mention honors.
"Since it has always been my dream to be named an AJGA All-American, I felt happy and honored," said Sukaree. "Knowing that I can achieve something that has always been my dream, I gain more confidence in myself that I am capable of achieving greater things."Â
A force for the Orange and Blue, Sukaree was ranked No. 22 in the Rolex AJGA rankings after back-to-back AJGA titles in July 2018. Sukaree was named as a "Freshman to Watch" in Lance Ringler's Golfweek preseason newcomer rankings. The Bangkok, Thailand native holds the third lowest 54-hole tournament total in program history and has finished in the top-10 twice this season.
"She has enjoyed a strong start to her freshman campaign and we are excited for what the future holds," noted Slone.
The 2018 Rolex Junior All-America Teams and Rolex Junior Players of the Year will be honored Sunday, November 18 during the Rolex Junior All-America Awards Banquet at PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
