The Illinois women's tennis team welcomes the No. 11 Texas Longhorns to the Atkins Tennis Center on Friday night. First serve is set for 5 pm. Illinois and Texas have not met since the Illini upset then-No. 9 Texas, 4-3 on March 21, 2012, the program's only win in the all-time series.Â
Illini Split Matches at ITA Kickoff WeekendÂ
UI used the doubles point and wins from Jaclyn Switkes, Mia Rabinowitz and Daniela Pedraza-Novak to defeat William & Mary, 4-2 to open the ITA Kickoff Weekend on January 26. Illinois then fell to No. 5-ranked North Carolina, 4-0 on January 27.Â
Illinois Sweeps Season-Opening Sunday DoubleheaderÂ
The Illinois women's tennis team opened the 2018 dual match season with a pair of wins in Sunday's (Jan. 21) doubleheader at the Atkins Tennis Center. The Illini swept Florida State, 4-0 and then topped Eastern Illinois, 7-0.Â
Illini Freshmen Debut Against Florida StateÂ
All four Illini freshmen made their debut in the season opener in doubles play as Illinois clinched the doubles point with wins on the first two courts. Emilee Duong, Asuka Kawai and Mia Rabinowitz competed in singles against FSU with Kawai clinching the match, 7-6(2), 7-5 on court one.
Kopinski, Kwong Join Clark's StaffÂ
Former Illini, Melissa Kopinski and Louise Kwong, joined head coach Evan Clark's staff during the offseason. Kopinski was named the Illini assistant coach in August and Kwong will serve as the volunteer assistant coach as announced earlier this month. Kopinski returns to the Atkins Tennis Center after serving as the Texas Tech volunteer assistant coach for the past two seasons. Kwong returns to her home courts after completing her time in the Orange and Blue in April.Â
Duong Wins ASU Invitational Singles TitleÂ
Emilee Duong won the 2017 ASU Invitational singles title on November 5. Duong topped fellow-Illini, Jaclyn Switkes, in the singles final, 7-6(2), 7-5.
Kawai Selected to Compete in Oracle ITA Fall National Championships
Asuka Kawai, earned an at-large bid to compete in the 2017 Oracle ITA Fall National Championships. Kawai becomes the first Illini women's tennis player to compete in the ITA National Fall Championships. Â
