Match 1 and 2: Illinois vs. Florida State, Eastern IllinoisÂ
The Illinois women's tennis team begins the 2018 dual match season on Sunday at the Atkins Tennis Center. Illinois will take on the Florida State Seminoles at 9:30 am and the Eastern Illinois Panthers at 4:00 pm. The Illini finished the 2017 campaign with a 14-13 record and a 7-4 mark in Big Ten play.Â
Kopinski, Kwong join Clark's staff Â
Former Illini, Melissa Kopinski and Louise Kwong, joined head coach Evan Clark's staff during the offseason. Kopinski was named the Illini assistant coach in August and Kwong will serve as the volunteer assistant coach as announced earlier this month. Kopinski returns to the Atkins Tennis Center after serving as the Texas Tech volunteer assistant coach for the past two seasons. Kwong returns to her home courts after completing her time in the Orange and Blue in April.Â
Illinois vs. Florida State and Eastern IllinoisÂ
The Orange and Blue take on the Seminoles and Panthers for the second-straight season on Sunday. Illinois holds a 2-6 record against Florida State, however, the Illini topped then-No. 36-ranked Florida State, 4-0 on March 10, 2017. The Illini swept the Panthers, 7-0 on February 12, 2017 to move to 10-4 all-time against Eastern Illinois.Â
Illini NewcomersÂ
Illinois welcomed four freshmen to the 2017-18 roster in August. Sasha Belaya, Emilee Duong, Asuka Kawai and Mia Rabinowitz made an immediate impact in the fall after successful junior careers.Â
Duong Wins ASU Invitational Singles TitleÂ
Emilee Duong won the 2017 ASU Invitational singles title on November 5. Duong topped fellow-Illini, Jaclyn Switkes, in the singles final, 7-6(2), 7-5.
Kawai Selected to Compete in Oracle ITA Fall National Championships
Asuka Kawai, earned an at-large bid to compete in the 2017 Oracle ITA Fall National Championships. Kawai becomes the first Illini women's tennis player to compete in the ITA National Fall Championships. Â
