CINCINNATI, Ohio ā Fighting Illini men's golf sits among the top five teams on the leaderboard after two rounds of play at the Bearcat Invitational. Led by Senior Nick Hardy (-8) and sophomore Michael Feagles (-5), the Orange and Blue closed the 36-hole day at 12-under par. Hardy led the Illini through the first two rounds at Coldstream Country Club (Par 71, 7,150-yards), opening play with a first-round 64 (-7). The number marks a career-low 18-hole score for Hardy, and ranks second all-time at Illinois. After two rounds of play, Kentucky (-21) leads the tournament, while Arkansas (-17) and Ohio State (-14) are also among the top three teams.
Climbing to the top of the leaderboardĀ early on, Hardy posted nine birdies to open the day, including a stretch of four in a row. Ā He continued to go low in the second round, posting two birdies in his first three holes. His 8-under par total score puts him in a tie for fourth, just two shots back from tournament leader, Daniel Wetterich (Ohio State). Ā
Opening the day with an early bogey, Feagles quickly recovered, and went on to post a 4-under par first round score. He carded four birdies on his first nine holes, adding another two before closing the round. In the second round of the day, the sophomore tallied back-to-back birdies on the front nine, and again on his back nine. Like Hardy, Feagles closed his second round at 1-under par for a total tally 5-under par.
Senior Dylan Meyer closed the day at 3-under par and in a tie for 14th. After posting consecutive bogeys to start the day, Meyer picked up momentum on the eighth hole. He tallied two birdies in the first round of play, and continued on to add five more in his second round.
Sophomore Giovanni Tadiotto shot 4-over par through two rounds and is in a tie for 44th individually. He carded three birdies to open the day with a first-round score of 1-over par. Tadiotto added another four birdies in his second round, for a 3-over par score.
Sophomore Bryan Baumgarten is tied for 68th individually with a two-round total 10-over par, while freshman Brendan O'Reilly sits 15-over par in a tie for 71st. Ā
