ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico – The Illinois women's golf team carded a 306 (+18) in the first round of play of the Albuquerque Regional. The Fighting Illini sit in 13th place in at The Championship Golf Course at the University of New Mexico (Par 72, 6,637 yards).
Chayanid Prapassarangkul and Grace Park lead the Illini, and both sit in a tie for 30th place. Prapassarangkul and Park each posted a 75 (+3) on the day, with Park recording a birdie on the ninth hole and the 16th hole, and Prapassarangkul birdied the ninth hole.
Swing Liu posted a 77 (+5) on the day, after she birdied the 18th hole, and is currently tied for 49th. Bing Singhsumalee's 79 (+7) on the day has her tied for 73rd, and Tristyn Nowlin carded an 83 (+11) and sits in a tie for 89th place.
Pepperdine leads the field with a 287 (-5), and Laura Kowohl of NC State was the top individual in the first round, posting a 69 (-3). The top six teams, and the top three individuals not on one of those six teams, will advance to the NCAA Championships set for May 19-24 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois. The Illini are nine strokes behind Campbell (+9) and Duke (+9) for sixth place.
The second round of play is set for 8:30 a.m. CT on Tuesday, and the final 18 holes are slated for 8:30 a.m. CT on Wednesday.
