URBANA, Illinois – The Fighting Illini men's tennis team swept the Penn State Nittany Lions, 4-0 on Friday afternoon at the Atkins Tennis Center. Illinois improves to 15-9 overall this season and 8-2 in Big Ten play.

In doubles action, the Illini earned the early advantage with wins on courts two and three. Freshman Gui Gomes and junior Aron Hiltzik were the first off the court with a 6-1 win on three. Freshman Vuk Budic and junior Aleks Vukic clinched the point for UI, 6-3 at the No. 2 position.

Singles play saw the No. 5-ranked Vukic top Penn State's Constant De La Bassetiere, 6-2, 6-1 on court one. Vukic extends his singles winning streak to 17 matches with the victory. Freshman Aleks Kovacevic earned a 6-2, 6-1 win on court four to push Illinois's lead to 3-0. Fellow-freshman Zeke Clark clinched the win for the Orange and Blue as he defeated Ben Lieb, 6-2, 6-2 on five.

Up next, the Illini will close out the regular season on Sunday as they take on the No. 2-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes. First serve is set for 12 p.m. on the south courts of the Atkins Tennis Center.

"It is always great to get a win at home, especially against a quality opponent. We did some good things today, but there is always room for improvement. Big match against Ohio State on Sunday and we are excited for another battle with the Buckeyes."
