COLUMBUS, Ohio. – The Illinois women's golf team finished in fifth place at the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational on Sunday, its sixth-straight top-five finish. The Fighting Illini carded rounds of 297-297-316 to finish at 910 (+46) at the Scarlet Course of the Ohio State University Golf Club.

"It was tough, it was tough for everyone," said head coach Renee Slone. "Clearly we didn't do our best to manage the conditions today as a team. It was windy today from the very start. Yesterday we had some wind, but it didn't pick up until we were past our first nine holes of the day. So that presented some challenges."

Illinois was led by Chayanid Prapassarangkul, who posted rounds of 74-72-81, finishing at 227 (+11) and a tie for 17th. Tristyn Nowlin was close behind, after a 70 (-2) in the first round, a 76 (+4) in the second round, and an 84 (+12) in the final round for a 230 (+14) overall and a tie for 22nd. Tying for 24th place, Grace Park turned in rounds of 76-73-82 to finish 15-over-par.

Swing Liu tied for 29th, with a 233 (+17), after posting a 77 (+5) in the first round, a 78 (+6) in both the second and final rounds. With an overall score of 18-over-par, Dana Gattone tied for 33rd and carded rounds of 80-78-76. Bing Singhsumalee recorded a 78 (+6) in the first round, a 76 (+4) in the second round and an 81 (+9) in the third found to finish in a tie for 37th place at 235 (+19).

Michigan State won the tournament, with an overall score of 889 (+25). Texas was close behind, at 26-over-par, with Kent State and Ohio State in a tie for third with scores of +38. Illinois placed fifth with a score of +46, followed by Michigan (+47), Penn State (+48), Indiana (+66), Indianapolis (+71), Minnesota (+80), Toledo (+84) and Rutgers (+103).

"It has certainly provided a tremendous learning opportunity for us," Slone said. "We will take this information and apply it to help us make better players as well as a better team. There were a lot of things our team members did well, and we want to make sure we focus on those. It certainly prepared us for the challenges we will face at Big Tens. Now it's a matter of taking that information we have gathered, turning around, and applying it."

Sophia Schubert of Texas was the individual champion, carding rounds of 68-72-73 for a 213 (-3) overall score.
