Mt. SAC Results | Bryan Clay Results

TORRANCE, Calif. – The Illinois distance group started the men's track and field team's trip to California out on the right foot, as four Illini set personal record times in their respective events on Thursday evening at the Mt. SAC Relays and Bryan Clay Invite. Sean Pengelly finished the 10,000m at Mt. SAC in personal-record time, while Dan Lathrop, Zach Dale and Zack Smith followed suit in the 5,000m at the Bryan Clay Invite.

Sean Pengelly opened the distance events with a personal-best time of 29:38.62 to take second place in the race. Later in the evening, Billy Magnesen finished the elite section of the event with a time of 29:51.74.

45 miles away in Azusa, California, three other Illini distance runners also set personal-record performances in the Bryan Clay Invite 5,000m race. All three competing in heat two, Dan Lathrop led the group with a time of 14:12.29 to take fourth place. Following Lathrop, Zach Dale clocked 14:25.04, while Zack Smith tied his record time with a 14:34.67 finish

Throwers Matsen Dziedzic and Michael Hyc both marked 183'9" (56.01m) in the hammer throw at Mt. SAC on Thursday afternoon.

The Illini are back in action at the Mt. SAC Relays and Bryan Clay Invite tomorrow, beginning with the long jump at the Clay Invite at 11 a.m. central time. The Orange and Blue will also start competition at a third meet, the Beach Invite in Long Beach, California, on Friday afternoon. The Mt. SAC Relays and Beach Invite conclude on Saturday afternoon.
