Matsen Dziedzic Wins Hammer Throw at UNLV Invite

Meet continues tomorrow in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS Matsen Dziedzic started the 2017 outdoor season out on the right foot for the Fighting Illini men's track and field team, as the junior won the hammer throw with a heave of 183'1" (55.82m) on Friday afternoon at the UNLV Invite.

"It was a great opening performance for the outdoor season," said Head Coach Mike Turk of Dziedzic. "The ring was pretty slick and we've had trouble with it in the past, but Matsen was consistent and competed very well."

The only open event of the day, Dziedzic won the competition by marking 183'1" (55.82m) on his third attempt of the day. Also competing for the Illini, Michael Hyc marked 168'3" (51.28m) in the event.

The UNLV Invite continues tomorrow with track and field events beginning at 9 a.m. central time.
