ROSEMONT, Ill. – Illinois freshman golfer Swing Liu has been named Big Ten Women's Golfer of the Week, after finishing in a tie for second at the Meadow Club Women's Intercollegiate in Fairfax, California, this week.
The honor is the first for the native of Shanghai, China, and the first for a Fighting Illini golfer since Chayanid Prapassarangkul received the weekly award on March 5, 2015.
Liu carded a 71 (-1) in the first round at Meadow Club, and a career-best 70 (-2) in the second round to lead the field after the first day. The Illini freshman carded a 73 (+1) in the final round to finish at 214 (-2), also a career-best. She recorded a birdie on each of her final two holes, which pushed Illinois from fourth place to third overall.
Illinois will compete next at the Briar's Creek Invitational in Johns Island, South Carolina, on March 20-21.
