CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – University of Illinois head football coach Lovie Smith announced Friday that North Carolina defensive end Isaiah Gay has signed a National Letter of Intent to play football for the Fighting Illini in 2017. Gay becomes the 25th member of the 2017 recruiting class.
Gay had 117 tackles, 25 TFLs, 17 sacks and three forced fumbles as senior to earn Big East Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2016.
A native of Nashville, N.C. and standout at Northern Nash High School, Gay is the seventh defensive lineman of the class of 2017, which is made up of 14 defenders and 11 on the offensive players.
