PEORIA, Ariz. – The Illinois women's golf team finished in fourth place at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Arizona. The Fighting Illini recorded rounds of 288-292-291 for a final score of 871 (+7) at the Westbrook Golf Club (Par 72, 6,269 yards).
"Overall, as a team, it was a decent day," said head coach Renee Slone. "Hate to backtrack on the final day, but other teams played really good golf today. We just weren't quite as sharp."
With a score of 861 (-3), Kansas State took first place. The top five, in order, were Kansas State, Ohio State (+1) and Kansas (+1) tied for second, Illinois and Iowa (+9). New Mexico State (+10) host Wisconsin (+13), Oregon State (+18), Washington State (+20), Notre Dame (+20), UC Davis (+22), Nebraska (+26) and Indiana (+34) rounded out the field.
Leading the Illini was Tristyn Nowlin, who closed the tournament with a 69 (-3) final round. Nowlin posted a 71 (-1) in both the first and second rounds, good for a 211 (-5) 54-hole score and tie for third place, both career-bests. Her five-under-par mark is tied for the third-best 54-hole tournament score in program history. Bing Singhsumalee carded rounds of 73-73-70 (E), tying for 16th place overall.
Finishing in a tie for 27th, Grace Park had a 72 (E) in the first round, a 74 (+2) in the second round, and a 74 (+2) in the final round to end the tournament at four-over-par. Swing Liu carded rounds of 72-74-78 (+8), placing in a tie for 44th.
Stephanie Miller carded a 78 (+6) in the first round, a 75 (+3) in the second round and a 78 (+6) in the final round to finish 15-over-par in a tie for 63rd. Competing as an individual, Chayanid Prapassarangkul recorded rounds of 73-77-72 (+6), good for a tie in 37th place. Prapassarangkul also had an eagle on hole No. 5, the second eagle of the tournament for Illinois.
"All in all, it's a pretty solid start to the spring season," Slone said. "It is certainly a performance to build off of going into our tournament in California next week."
Next Up
The Illini will head to the West Coast this weekend, in preparation for the Meadow Club Women's Intercollegiate in Fairfax, California. The tournament is will take place on Monday and Tuesday, March 6-7.
