CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois women's golf team will open the 2017 spring campaign in Peoria, Ariz., at the Westbrook Spring Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole tournament is hosted by No. 37 Wisconsin, and is scheduled for Sunday and Monday, Feb. 26-27, at the Westbrook Golf Club Vistas Course.
"We want to build, tournament to tournament, and put ourselves in the best possible position for success," said head coach Renee Slone. "Whether that means winning a tournament or finishing in the top five, we just need to stay focused on ourselves and do all the little things we need to do in order to be successful."
The Westbrook Spring Invitational has been hosted by Wisconsin for six-straight years, with the Fighting Illini participating each season. Illinois won the tournament in 2012.
The Illini lineup will be Swing Liu, Stephanie Miller, Tristyn Nowlin, Grace Park and Bing Singhsumalee. Chayanid Prapassarangkul will be competing as well, as an individual.
Ranked No. 27 in the country, Illinois will face No. 25 Ohio State, No. 37 Wisconsin, No. 45 Kansas State, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico State, Notre Dame, Oregon State, UC Davis and Washington State.
"As long as we go into each tournament well-prepared, confident in our abilities, and we stay diligent and work hard, it will be a good tournament for us," Slone said.
There will be a shotgun start on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. CT, with the second round of play following the first round. The final round is scheduled for Monday, with a 9:30 a.m. CT start.
