PEORIA, Ariz. – At the conclusion of the first day of play at the Westbrook Spring Invitational, Illinois sits in third place. The Fighting Illini turned in team scores of 288 (E) and 292 (+4) in the first two rounds from the Westbrook Golf Club (Par 72, 6269 yards) in Peoria, Arizona.
"All in all, a pretty solid day," said head coach Renee Slone. "Conditions were a little bit challenging, so some adjustments needed to be made. For the most part, we adjusted fairly well. Still, it was an area that cost us here and there."
Tristyn Nowlin leads Illinois with a 71 (-1) in both the first and second rounds, for a two-under-par overall and tie for sixth place. Swing Liu and Grace Park both posted a 72 (E) in the first round, and 74 (+2) in the second round, tying for 18th place with two-over-par overall scores. Liu also recorded an eagle on the 15th hole in the first round, the second eagle of the year for the Illini. Bing Singhsumalee shot a 73 (+1) in both the first and second rounds, matching the two-over-par overall score and 18th-place tie by Liu and Park.
Stephanie Miller sits in a tie for 54th, after a 78 (+6) in the first round and a 75 (+3) in the second round, good for a nine-over-par overall score. Competing as an individual, Chayanid Prapassarangkul recorded a 73 (+1) score in the first round, and a 77 (+5) score in the second round, carding a six-over-par overall for a tie in 41st place.
"Tomorrow, we are looking to make those adjustments to put ourselves in the best possible position and continue to stay patient," Slone said. "It's important to stay patient, and focus on the process and the game plan, and take care of ourselves."
The final round of the Westbrook Spring Invitational is set to tee off at 9:30 a.m. CT Monday morning with a shotgun start.
