LAS VEGAS - Three members of the Illinois men's gymnastics team have advanced to the Winter Cup Finals on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 9:15 p.m. CT. Alex Diab, Johnny Jacobson and Brandon Ngai all made the cut for Saturday's finals, and have also qualified for the USA National Championships in August.
"It's huge for these guys," said head coach Justin Spring. "We are going to have three guys in the (Winter Cup) Finals on Saturday, and three guys that qualified for the USA National Championships. I'm really proud of them. It's great to see them perform on this stage and it's great for our program."
Jacobson and Ngai each won titles on the day, both in the first session of preliminaries. On vault, Jacobson scored a 14.350 to earn his second title in the event on the year. Ngai's score of 14.850 on pommel horse was the best by far in his session, and the second-highest overall on the day. Ngai's title on pommel horse was the first he's won this season.
