INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – Fighting Illini freshman, Asuka Kawai, earned an at-large bid to compete in the 2017 Oracle ITA Fall National Championships. Kawai becomes the first Illini women's tennis player to compete in the ITA National Fall Championships. The event will be held from Nov. 1-5 in Indian Wells, California.
"The entire program is very proud and excited for Asuka's selection into the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships," said head coach Evan Clark. "It's a great honor and privilege to compete at any of the ITA National Championship events and I know it is an opportunity that Asuka is ready for. We all know she will be a fantastic representative for the Illini at Indian Wells."
Kawai reached the ITA Midwest Regional quarterfinals in early October, which qualified her for an at-large selection into the Fall Championships.
Selection Process
To be considered for an at-large selection in singles, a player must have reached the quarterfinals of the Oracle ITA Masters, the Round of 16 at the ITA All-American Championships or the quarterfinals of an ITA Regional Championship. At-large selections will be based on each players' ITA/UTR Rankings average.

- 24 ITA Regional Championships Finalists

- 2 ITA Wild Cards
- 21 At-Large Selections
About the Oracle ITA Fall National Championships
The Oracle ITA National Fall Championships will be at held November 1-5, 2017 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. The event marks the conclusion of the fall tennis season and includes 128 of the nation's top collegiate singles players (64 women and 64 men). The event replaces the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships.
