CARMEL, Ind. – Fighting Illini men's golf closed play at the Crooked Stick Invitational on Tuesday, climbing into third place as a team. Illinois battled windy conditions at Crooked Stick Golf Club (Par 72, 7,290 yards), closing the tournament with a total score 7-over par. Senior Nick Hardy (-1) and sophomore Giovanni Tadiotto (+1) earned finishes among the top 10 individuals to lead Illinois. The Orange and Blue were joined among the top three by Kentucky (E) and North Florida (+1).
Hardy shot even par in the final round to maintain his 1-under par total tally and finish in a tie for second overall. He played steady throughout the round using two late birdies to negate two late bogeys on the day. Hardy has finished among the top six in all three of Illinois' tournaments this season, and has earned runner-up honors twice.
Tadiotto earns his first top-10 finish this season, using a 1-under par final round score to close the tournament at 1-over par in total. Tadiotto shot even par on the front nine Tuesday morning, before continuing to record three birdies in six holes on the back nine. Two late bogeys put him 1-under for the round and in a tie for 10th individually.
Senior Dylan Meyer posted a 1-over par final round tally to earn his second consecutive top-25 finish this season. Meyer shot 5-over par for the tournament to tie for 23rd overall.
Sophomore Michael Feagles tied for 38th individually with a total score 9-over par, while sophomore Bryan Baumgarten closed the tournament at 10-over par to tie for 42nd.
Playing as an individual, freshman Brendan O'Reilly tied for 28th overall. He shot 5-over par on Tuesday for a total score 7-over par.
The Illini have a quick turnaround this week, heading to the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational, October 22-24. Held at Isleworth Golf and Country Club, October 22-24, the tournament welcomes some of the nation's top-ranked teams and individuals each season.
