OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – Junior Dylan Meyer shot 3-under par on Saturday to climb to the top of the individual leaderboard at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational. As a team, Illinois is currently 6-under par and holds a 21-stroke lead over the tournament field. Texas A&M (+15) and Oklahoma State (+17) are among the top three teams. Individually, four Illini sit among the top 15 overall.
"Today was another positive day, Dylan was the anchor, shooting 3-under," head coach Mike Small said. "To have three guys among the top four shows a very deep effort this week. The conditions were tougher today with the pins and the wind, but we stayed the course and stayed with our plan, persevering through a tough day to score."
Meyer currently holds a 4-under par score through two rounds of play, and he is tied for the individual lead with Texas A&M's Cameron Champ. Meyer got the day rolling with a birdie on the first hole, but he was at even par before making the turn. The junior went on to post four birdies on the back nine and climb up the leaderboard.
Freshman Bryan Baumgarten is also among the top individuals as he is tied for third overall. Baumgarten tallied three birdies on the front nine to finish the day 2-over par. He is 3-over par through two rounds.
Junior Nick Hardy is currently 1-under par in a tie for fourth individually. Hardy shot 1-over par on Saturday after negating two early bogeys with two birdies on the back nine.
Sophomore Edoardo Lipparelli shot even par on Saturday for a two-round total of 3-over par. Freshman Michael Feagles is currently tied for 26th individually after finishing the day 4-over par.
Playing as individuals, Giovanni Tadiotto (+13) and Trevor Gold (+15) currently sit in 61st and 68th places, respectively.
"The plan for tomorrow is to stay strong," Small said. "And to continue to move our games in the right direction."
The tournament is being held at Olympia Fields Country Club, which boasts a Par 70, 7,353-yard course. The Illini are competing among a field of 14 teams, seven of which are ranked among the Bushnell Golfweek Preseason Coaches Poll.
