It's been almost two years since she graduated, but Samantha Postillion still draws from her experience during her time at Illinois to help her on the links.
"As a former Illini athlete, I cannot be thankful enough for how much being on the team has prepared me for beginning to chase my dreams on the Symetra and LPGA tour now," Postillion said.
The Illinois alum finished her collegiate career with the third-best career stroke average in program history (76.69), and was a WGCA All-American Scholar and Academic All-Big Ten honoree in 2014.
Postillion is a two-time Arizona Women's State Amateur Champion (2012 and 2014), the 2012 Chicago Women's District Champion, finished second at the 2014 Jaguar (Augusta) Collegiate Invitational, and tied for first (lost in playoff) in the 2012 Women's Illinois State Open.
She played on the Cactus Tour for the last year in a half, finishing in the top 10 three times and shooting a career-best 65 this year. Postillion finished fourth at the Tres Rios Cactus Tour Event in 2014, seventh 2015 Georgia Women's Open Pro Division, and in the top 10 at both the 2015 and 2016 Illinois Women's Open Pro Division.
"I have continued a workout regimen of my own after college to keep me in shape," Postillion said. "I have more time now than ever to get my game to be the best it's ever been."
Last month, Postillion played in the Decatur-Forsyth Classic in Decatur, Illinois, with fellow Illinois alum Ember Schuldt, a Symetra Tour event. There's been a learning curve on the Symetra Tour, but the future is bright for Postillion.
"I believe that sometimes it's just hard to start something new and exciting and be amazing at it," Postillion said. "I belive the next couple of years will definitely be breakthrough years."
Postillion and Schuldt will both be attending the 2016 Illinois Women's Golf Pro-Am in October.
