Denley Earns B1G Defensive Player of the Week Honors

The Illini senior earned two shutouts and grabbed 10 saves to open the season.
ROSEMONT, Ill. – Fighting Illini senior goalkeeper, Michelle Denley, has been named the Big Ten Conference Defensive Player of the Week today as announced by the league office. After starting both of Illinois' games last weekend Denley owns a 2-0-0 record, leading the nation with two shutouts.
The Oakville, Ontario, native earned her first career shutout against Morehead State before grabbing a career-high 10 saves against Illinois State on Aug. 21. She made a major play for the Illini against the Redbirds, denying a penalty kick attempt in the second half of the game. Denley played all 90 minutes in both of the weekends' matches, and earns the first weekly honor of her career.
