Complete Jamaican Roster
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Former Fighting Illini Men's Track & Field hurdler Andrew Riley qualified for his second Olympics, placing third at Jamaican Olympic Trials in the 110m hurdles with a time of 13.49. Riley made his Olympic debut at 2012 London Games.
Riley is one of four 110m hurdlers listed on the Jamaican Olympic roster due to Jamaica allowing medical exemptions for athletes that are unable to compete at Olympic Trials, as stated by the Jamaica Athletics Administration Association selection policy:
"Athletes who are ranked/listed in the top three in the world for their event who are ill or injured at the time of the National Championships and are granted an exemption from competing at the Championships may still be considered for selection provided that they are able to prove their world ranking form prior to the final submission of the entries for the competition."
2012 Olympic 110m hurdles Bronze Medalist Hansle Parchment did not compete at Olympic Trials, but submitted a medical exemption and is listed on the 63-member roster. The Jamaica Athletics Administration Association has until July 18 to declare a maximum of three 110m hurdlers for the Rio Games.
In his Olympic debut in 2012, Riley timed 13.59 to finish 24th overall in the 110m hurdles opening round. Since the London Games, Riley has won three Jamaican national titles and qualified for the final at World Championships in 2013.
At Illinois, Riley was a four-time NCAA champion and 12-time All-American. As a senior in 2012, Riley became the first male athlete in NCAA history to win titles in the 100m dash and 110m hurdles in the same season. In addition to his success on the national stage, Riley won 12 Big Ten titles and set Illinois records in the 60m, 60m hurdles, 100m, 110m hurdles and 4x100m relay.
Riley hails from St. Thomas, Jamaica, where he was a three-time Jamaican Junior National Champion, winning two heptathlon titles and a third championship in the high jump.
Track events at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games will commence on Friday, August 12, while the 110m hurdles opening round is scheduled for Monday, August 15. The semi-final and final will take place the following day, August 16. See the full schedule here.
