The Illini will once again be represented at the annual Arnold Palmer Cup this weekend as recent graduate, Charlie Danielson, is competing for Team USA.Â
The Palmer Cup begins June 24, and will continue through the weekend at Formby Golf Club in Formby, Merseyside, England. Formby Golf Club boasts a 7,031-yard, Par 72 course located along the shores of the Irish Sea. The Palmer Cup uses a Ryder Cup-style format, pitting the United States against Europe.
Danielson will make his first appearance for the United States at the event. Danielson is the fourth Illini to appear on the prestigious list of participants in the Palmer Cup, joining Thomas Detry, Thomas Pieters and Scott Langley.Â
Danielson tees off at 2:26 a.m. CT tomorrow, which is 8:26 a.m. local time. He is paired with Zach Wright (LSU) and will face Mathias Eggenberger and Robin Petersson (Augusta).Â
Team USA is coached by Mike Cook, director of golf at Coastal Georgia. A Dave Williams National Coach of the Year award winner, Cook has led Coastal Georgia to 18 tournament wins on the way to two NAIA National Championships in just five years at the helm of the program.
Fans can keep up with the Palmer Cup on Twitter, or check the tournament's website for updates. Live scoring will be available on Golfstat as well.Â
