The Illinois baseball team set six program records in 2016, including four by junior starting pitcher Cody Sedlock. The right-hander, who was named Illinois' fifth Big Ten Pitcher of the Year, set Illini records for season strikeouts (116), Big Ten season strikeouts (75), Big Ten season innings pitched (64.2) and Illinois Field's single-game strikeouts mark (14 vs. Ohio State). Sedlock's dominant season also helped Illinois set the team record for strikeouts during Big Ten play during a 24-game conference schedule. Doug Hayes tied Illinois Field's single-game hits allowed record when he fired a one-hitter against Penn State.
