CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Fighting Illini Men's Track & Field will send 13 individuals to the NCAA West Prelims after the NCAA announced the accepted declarations Thursday afternoon. The meet begins Thursday, May 27 and continues through Saturday, May 29 in Lawrence, Kansas.
Senior Cam Viney headlines the list of Illini heading to regional meet, ranking in the top-10 in the west region in both the 110m and 400m hurdles. A 2015 Second Team All-American in both events, Viney clocked a 110m hurdle season-best mark last weekend at Big Ten Championships, a 13.74 time that placed him third in the final. In the 400m, Viney's season-best mark came at Stanford where he timed 50.66, the seventh-best mark in the region.
Freshman Devin Quinn and sophomore Mo Maat will represent the Illini sprinters at the regional, both competing in the 100m. Quinn and Maat both scored points at Big Ten Championships.Â
Five distance runners will compete in Lawrence, three in the 1500m and two in the 10,000m. In the 1500m, seniors Liam Markham and Bryce Basting and freshman Jesse Reiser will don the Orange & Blue, while Ian Barnett and Billy Magnesen will be featured in the 10,000m.Â
In field events, veterans Ben Dodds and Aaron Wilks qualified in the javelin. Dodds ranks third on the Illinois all-time list, while Wilks set a new personal-record with a 210'1" (64.04m) mark at the Illinois Twilight.
Rounding out the field will be the 4x400m relay team, a line-up of Kenneth Allen, Matt Burns, Cam Viney and Joe McAsey. The group are coming off their best performance of the season, a 3:07.78 mark at Big Ten Championships.
