INDIANAPOLIS -Â After 18 holes of play at the Big Ten Women's Golf Championship, the Fighting Illini squad is tied for third place after posting the third-best round in Illinois program history. The Orange and Blue carded a collective 285 (-3) to sit in third place after the first day from The Fort Golf Resort.
Grace Park leads the Illini unit with a 3-under par score of 69 and is tied for third in the individual standings. The Illini sophomore tallied three birdies and an eagle in the opening round.
Also in the top-10 individual standings is Pailin Ruttanasupagid, who shares 10th place after day one in Indianapolis. In just her second event as part of the lineup, the Illini carded her first round below par at 70 (-2). The sophomore registered two birdies and an eagle on the opening day.
In her Big Ten Championship debut, Bing Singhsumalee shot an even 72 to open play. The Illini freshman tallied four birdies on her way to a share of 23rd place after first round.
Sophomores Dana Gattone and Chayanid Prapassarangkul are tied for 35th after the first 18 holes of play. The Illini both tallied rounds of 74 (+2).
Junior Stephanie Miller comes in at 45th after round one, carding a score of 75 (+3).Â
No. 35 Purdue leads the 14-team field after the opening round. The Boilermakers posted a 283Â (-5) reading. No. 7 Northwestern is one stroke off the lead at 284 (-4). The Illini and No. 50 Michigan are tied for third at 285 (-3). Indiana (286), Rutgers (287), Penn State (288), Wisconsin (289), No. 36 Ohio State (291), No. 39 Michigan State (292) and Iowa (292) round out the top-10 teams. Minnesota (297), Nebraska (298) and Maryland (304) round out the field.
The Illini tee times for round two will begin at 8:42 a.m. CT from The Fort Golf Resort tomorrow morning.
