COLUMBUS, Ohio – After the opening 36 holes of the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational, the Fighting Illini sit in sixth place with a team score of 600. The Orange and Blue tallied group efforts of 301 and 299 in today's opening rounds at the Ohio State University Golf Club's Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.
The Illinois squad is led by freshman Bing Singhsumalee who carded rounds of 73 and 74, respectively, and currently sits in 11th place.
Competing for the first time as part of the Illini team, sophomore Pailin Ruttanasupagid had her best day in the orange and blue yet. The Illini worked to scores of 76 and 73 during the opening day and enters the final round in a tie for 14th place.
Sophomore Dana Gattone and junior Stephanie Miller sit inside the top-30 individuals with a combined score of 153. Gattone worked to scores of 78 and 75 on the opening day while Miller carded frames of 74 and 79.
Chayanid Prapassarangkul finished the day tied for 37th with a two-round score of 156. The Illini sophomore posted scores of 79 and 77, respectively from the par-72, 6,319-yard venue.
Illinois' sixth competitor on the day in Grace Park. The Illini sophomore sits tied for 49th after first day scores of 83 and 77.
The Fighting Illini sit at +24 overnight for a sixth-place ranking. No. 14 Kent State leads the field at -1. Indiana (+10), Ohio State (+15), Michigan State (592) and Toledo (+20) round out the top five teams in the 12-team field.
All six Illini will tee off from the first hole in tomorrow's final round. Park (7:30), Prapassarangkul (7:40), Gattone (7:50), Miller (8:00), Ruttanasupagid (8:10) and Singhsumalee (8:20) will get back to work in the morning. All tee times are listed in central time.
