Illini Continue B1G Play with Two Matches in Three Days

URBANA, Ill. - The No. 10 ranked Fighting Illini men's tennis team will face two conference opponents in three days this weekend, beginning with a road match against Indiana on Friday, March 25, at 5 pm CT. UI will then return to Urbana for its first home conference match of the season, as they host Purdue on Sunday, March 27, at Noon at Atkins Tennis Center.   

FOR STARTERS 
The Illini currently hold an 8-7 record on the season, following a tough 4-3 loss at No. 18 Kentucky on Tuesday, March 22. Illinois has faced a daunting schedule so far this season, having just finished a stretch of nine straight top-25 opponents. Illinois seeks its first conference win of the season.

SCOUTING INDIANA  
The Hoosiers enter the weekend 4-10 and currently hold a six-match losing streak. Indiana is 0-1 in conference play, suffering a 4-1 loss to Purdue on March 8. Indiana has one ranked singles player in No. 50 Sam Monette. Monette and Daniel Bednarczyk are ranked No. 78 in doubles.

SCOUTING PURDUE

The Boilermakers currently hold a 12-3 record on the season and a 1-0 record in the Big Ten. Purdue resumes its conference slate on Friday, Match 24, against Northwestern before traveling to Urbana. The Boilermakers sport two ranked singles players in No. 51 Gergely Madarasz and No. 57 Benjamin Ugarte.

ILLINI IN THE RANKINGS

Illinois enters the weekend at No. 10 in the ITA national rankings. UI is one of just two teams in the country with two singles players currently ranked in the top-10 nationally, highlighted by No. 4 Aleks Vukic and No. 10 Jared Hiltzik. The two have combined for a 21-5 record on the season. Aron Hiltzik is also ranked at No. 59.

ILLINI GARNER B1G HONORS

Senior Jared Hiltzik was named Big Ten Tennis Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, March 1, as announced by the league office. Hiltzik went 3-0 over the stretch, helping the Orange and Blue knock off No. 2 Virginia at home. The honor is the first for Hiltzik this season and sixth of his career. It marks the third time this season an Illini men's tennis player has received the award, as Aleks Vukic has garnered the laurel twice this season. Vukic received the award on Jan. 26 and Feb. 16.

HILTZIK ENTERS 100 WIN CLUB

Senior Jared Hiltzik surpassed the 100 singles win mark earlier this season. Hiltzik is one of 14 Illini to hit reach the 100-win club. He currently sits as the 10th-winningest singles player in program history with a 107 total wins.
