WEST LAYFATETTE, Ind. – Two Illini divers traveled to West Lafayette, Indiana, to compete in the NCAA Zone Diving Championships over the weekend. Senior Jessica Clifford and freshman Madeline Kuhn represented the Orange and Blue in the three days of action. Kuhn competed in the one-meter, three-meter and platform diving competition, while Clifford competed in the one-meter event.
"The girls battled this weekend," said diving coach Chris Waters. "It's a hard meet which saw a number of very talented divers make errors and miss dives. Even when you have a solid game plan, meets like this can take a toll on you both physically and mentally."
In the one-meter diving competition, Clifford was the top performer for the Illini with a score of 223.70, which placed her 31st. Kuhn finished with a score of 198.90 in the weekend's first event.
In the three-meter dive on Friday, Kuhn tallied a score of 215.50. She also placed 21st in platform diving with a score of 154.20.
"We gave it our best shot and I'm confident we learned some lessons, lessons we'll apply to our training this offseason," said Waters. "I can't say enough about the attitude and grit the girls showed this weekend. The future looks bright."
