AUGUSTA, Ga. – Illinois Women's Golf kicked off the 3M Augusta Invitational with a +16 showing in round one from the Forest Hills Golf Course. Grace Park leads the Illini unit through 18 holes with a score of 73 (+1). Park enters the final day tied for 13th individually.
The Illini posted 12 holes below par on the day and will enter the second round tied for 11th in the team standings. Both the second and third rounds of the competition will now be played on Saturday, March 12, due to the possibility of inclement weather on Sunday.
Junior Stephanie Miller finished the opening round with a four-over par reading of 76 to put her in a tie for 34th. After shooting +4 on the front-nine holes, Miller turned in an even slate on the back half of the course.
Dana Gattone finished the day with a +5 reading and also turned in an even-par reading on the back-nine holes from the Augusta course. The Illini sophomore owns a share of 49th place after the opening round.
Also tied at five-over par is Pailin Ruttanasupagid, who is competing for the Orange and Blue as an individual. The sophomore carded a trio of birdies on the day to tie with Park for the most by an Illini on the opening day.
Chayanid Prapassarangkul and Bing Singhsumalee each closed the first round at six-over par. Prapassarangkul turned in a +1 effort on the front-nine holes while Singhsumalee did so on the back nine.
No. 33 Furman and East Tennessee State lead the field tied at +2 after the opening round. 35th-ranked East Carolina finished +7, while No. 42 Augusta and Kennesaw State are tied for fourth with a 10-over reading. No. 17 Florida State (+11), Virginia Tech (+13), Eastern Michigan (+13), No. 21 Texas A&M (+13) and Coastal Carolina (+14) round out the top-10 teams. Illinois and Maryland are tied at 11th with +16 readings and Mercer (+17), Troy (+18), Georgia Southern (+20) and Memphis (+27) close out the standings.
Tomorrow, Saturday will commence with a shot-gun start at 7:30 a.m. CT to wrap up action at the 3M Augusta Invitational. Miller will open play on hole 9 (A) along with Park (B). Gattone is scheduled for the 10th hole while Singhsumalee (A) and Prapassarangkul (B) will begin on 11. Competing as an individual, Ruttanasupagid will begin on 18.
