Illini Fall in Home Finale to Iowa

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Fighting Illini closed its home slate with a 28-0 loss to Iowa on Saturday on a windy day at Memorial Stadium.

Wes Lunt finished 19-of-41 for 137 yards.

Zach Grant caught 8 passes for 65 yards in the loss.

Tre Watson led the Illini defense with 15 tackles - four of them solo - and forced an Iowa fumble deep in Illinois territory. Dillan Cazley recorded an interception of Iowa quarterback C.J. Beathard.

"Looking at today's game, of course, you have to give Iowa credit," said Illinois head coach Lovie Smith. "They played well and did what they had to do under weather circumstances. They played a smart physical football game. Looking at our team, we did not. We didn't play as well as we needed to. We needed to establish the run on the offensive side, try to keep the ball as much as we could. A lot of those things you need to do to win and we didn't."

Illinois plays its final game of the season next Saturday at Northwestern at 11 am.
