Illinois secures third top-five finish of the season

SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – The Fighting Illini finished in fourth place at the Cardinal Cup in Simpsonville, Kentucky. The Orange and Blue recorded rounds of 305-299-304 for a final score of 908 (+44).
Florida State won the tournament at the University of Louisville Golf Club (Par 72, 6,393 yards) with a score of 876 (+12). Wisconsin finished in second with a 34-over-par score, and Kentucky ended up in third (+37). Louisville and East Carolina tied for fifth place at 52-over-par. Maryland finished in seventh (+53), followed by Virginia Tech (+55), Cincinnati (+60), Columbia (+67), Middle Tennessee (+69), Minnesota (+71), Bradley (+79), Kansas (+83), Richmond (+84), Louisville 'B' (+86) and Ball State (+111).
Grace Park led Illinois, tying for sixth place overall with rounds of 75-73-74 (+6). Not far behind Park was Stephanie Miller, with a first round score of 81, a 73 in the second round, and a 71 for the final round, good for a 225 (+9) overall.
"Steph and Grace both enjoyed strong final rounds," head coach Renee Slone said. "It is great for them to finish the fall season with top-10 finishes."
Tying for 21st place was Bing Singhsumalee, who carded rounds of 71-79-79 for a final score of 229 (+13). Tristyn Nowlin tied for 35th, after recording scores of 78-74-80 (+16). Chayanid Prapassarangkul withdrew in the final round.
Playing as an individual, Dana Gattone turned in a first round score of 76, a second round score of 80, and a final round of 75, finishing in a tie for 29th and ending at 15-over-par.
The Illini have plenty positives to build off of after concluding their fall season.
"We will head into our offseason to rest, recharge and continue to improve physically and mentally," Slone said. "We are looking forward to some very individualized strength and stretching programs as well as focusing on key areas in each team member's golf game. We will come out ready for an outstanding spring season in 2017."

Illinois will have a long break before heading to Peoria, Arizona, for the Westbrook Spring Invitational on Feb. 26-27 of 2017.
