Champaign, Ill. – For the final fall tournament of the 2016-17 season, Illinois Women's Golf will head to the Cardinal Cup in Simpsonville, Kentucky.
"We're excited to get back on the horse, so to speak, and have a great finish to the fall season," head coach Renee Slone said.
This will be the second consecutive season the Fighting Illini have participated in the tournament, which is hosted by Louisville at the University of Louisville Golf Club (par-72, 6,393 yards). The Cardinal Cup is 54-holes, and will consist of three 18-hole rounds, one each day from Oct. 23-25.
"Any time you go to a golf course that you are familiar with, that you have past experience on, provides a sense of comfort in that the players know what to expect," Slone said. "They already have in their mind strategy and they know the conditions for the most part."
Making the trip for the Orange and Blue will be Stephanie Miller, Tristyn Nowlin, Grace Park, Chayanid Prapassarangkul and Bing Singhsumalee. Dana Gattone will be competing as well, as an individual.
With the Illini checking in at No. 22, six of the 16 teams participating are ranked in Golfstat's top 50, including No. 7 Florida State, No. 33 East Carolina, No. 42 Wisconsin, No. 48 Kentucky and No. 50 Louisville. Rounding out the field are Maryland, Columbia, Middle Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Minnesota, Kansas, Cincinnati, Richmond, Bradley and Ball State.
"This is a good opportunity for us to show our resiliency, a chance to bounce back and be mentally strong. It's an opportunity to end the fall season on a positive note."
Live stats will be available on Golfstat, and a recap of each round will be available on FightingIllini.com.
