CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Fighting Illini Women's Golf team is headed to Greenville, North Carolina, for the Greenville Regional Preview. The Orange and Blue will play at the par-72, 6,122-yard Brook Valley Country Club.
Due to HB2, the NCAA Regional has been moved from Greenville, North Carolina, to the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Georgia. However, it has not changed the mindset for Illinois.
"For us, we are just going to treat it as another tournament, prepare the best we can, take as many notes as possible during the practice round, tee it up, and play as well as we can in the tournament," head coach Renee Slone said.
The travel squad for the Illini will consist of Dana Gattone, Stephanie Miller, Tristyn Nowlin, Grace Park and Bing Singhsumalee. Chayanid Prapassarangkul will be competing as an individual.
The 54-hole tournament will take place over the course of two days, Oct. 17-18, and will feature 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday. Tee times begin at 7:30 a.m. CT on both days.
Among the teams set to compete at the Greenville Regional Preview, Illinois checks in with the highest Golfstat ranking at No. 10. Joining them will be four other top-50 squads, including No. 32 Oregon, No. 39 August, 44th-ranked Old Dominion, and the host team, No. 50 East Carolina. Campbell, Clemson, Colorado State, Denver, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas State, Mississippi State, Middle Tennessee State, TCU and Virginia Tech round out the rest of the field.
"We are looking to continue to improve, continuing to take the information we have gathered this season and put it into play, put it action," Slone said. "We are going to make good decisions on the golf course, and set ourselves up for success."
Results will be posted on FIGHTINGILLINI.com after each round of the tournament, and live scoring will be available on Golfstat. Fans can also follow the team on Twitter (@IlliniWGolf).
